We investigated the hypothesis that taking an extra math course by the end of eleventh grade increases student achievement as measured by high-stakes state administered tests and by the Scholastic Aptitude Test. More importantly, we quantified how much an additional course helped, after controlling for other factors that are likely to contribute to higher achievement.
