MLI lead teachers who successfully earned the MMT certificate have earned respect in their districts through career advancement, opportunities to develop their skills as professional developers, financial gain, and, in their school mathematics communities as instructional coaches, mentors, and advisors. The number of MMTs in the state increased significantly as a result of MLI's contribution to the pool of successful participants. MMTs have attested to increased self-efficacy as classroom teachers and mentors and claim membership to a particular knowledge community (Craig, 1995) as a result of the intensive preparation they experienced as a group.
